BCAS Biomed & Data Security and Protection

23rd August 2019

As a third-party supplier working alongside healthcare providers, BCAS Biomed is committed to putting appropriate measures in place to ensure data security and the secure handling of information.

The NHS Data Security and Protection (DSP) Toolkit assesses whether providers are fully meeting their statutory obligations on information security and data protection, the latter in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).  It applies to NHS Providers, Clinical Commissioning Groups, General Practices, Local Authorities and Social Care Providers, and also includes any third-party suppliers such as BCAS Biomed who manage or process data on their behalf.

Focusing on three key areas of leadership obligations – people, processes and technology – the DSP Toolkit ensures comprehensive protection for IT systems and the sensitive personal data which they process. The DSP Toolkit requires commitments to GDPR compliance, the provision of data security and protection training to staff, prompt action on security advisories, the reporting of security incidents and the removal of unsupported IT systems, amongst others.

BCAS Biomed, as a third-party supplier, needs to be assessed.  We are pleased to confirm that following the submission of our Assessment we have been notified that BCAS Biomed has fulfilled all the requirements and that the DSP Toolkit standards have been met by the company.

On top of this, back in February we attained our Cyber Essentials Plus Certification; a cornerstone of cyber security and valuable indicator that an organisation has taken necessary measures to reduce risk of a cyber-attack.
